About the Owner
Mr. Kelly Gilmore was the Director of Fred Astaire Staten Island in New York City for over twenty-five years. He’s been a dance consultant for the films “Rain Man” and “Dirty Dancing”: coaching Oscar-winner Dustin Hoffman and Jennifer Grey. He’s also coached Marlo Thomas for her Broadway performance in “Social Security.”
His dozens of national TV performances include morning talk show appearances with Joan Rivers and Joan Lunden, “New York at Night” with Clint Holmes, a Time-Life Music infomercial with Hal Linden, numerous appearances on “Good Morning America,” dancing to the Harry Connick Jr. Orchestra live from the Rainbow Room, as well as dancing with the cast members of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” on The Disney Holiday Special.
Mr. Gilmore is a board member and performer with “Out of the Box Theatre Company” whose mission is to create performance opportunities for senior actors, directors, and artisans and offer free admission to senior audiences.
On Staten Island, Mr. Gilmore has performed with the Harbor Lights Theater Company and sung with the Staten Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Dr. Caroline Clark Artist Director.
He has taught and choreographed performance workshops at the JCC, Manor Road conducted by T.R.Y. (Theater for Rehabilitation for Youth, Pearl Minsky, Director) The workshops combined two diverse groups – Young Adults with Special Needs and Seniors.
He has provided the Staten Island Borough President’s Office with numerous dance performances and dance demonstrations including dancing with the Sammy Kaye Orchestra in Silver Lake Park, Staten Island, and with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Center for the Arts – College of Staten Island.
Mr. Gilmore has conducted after school ballroom dance programs at many Public schools including Staten Island Technical High School and Public School 21, S. I. He is presently teaching dance to students with autism at the Eden II School on Staten Island.
Mr. Gilmore taught ballroom and Latin dancing at the Y.M.C.A. for over ten years both on Richmond Avenue and Broadway, Staten Island.
Work with Seniors
For 30 years Mr. Gilmore has been teaching Seniors at his dance studio as well as conducting dance programs on Staten Island at Arrochar, Mount Lorretto, Berry House, The New Dorp Beach and Great Kills Friendship Clubs. He has coached dance and done dance demonstrations at many other senior centers including Carmel Nursing Home’s Adult Day Care, Eger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Island Shores Senior Residence, New Lane Shores Senior Center on S.I. and Four Seasons Nursing Home in Brooklyn.
Mr. Gilmore is a consultant with the Jewish Community Center’s Social Adult Day Care Program teaching dance and other art related activities to seniors with Alzheimer’s Disease, JCC on Arthur Kill Road, Staten Island.
Mr. Gilmore has provided seniors with dance instruction for the New York City Department of Park and Recreation at the Cromwell Center. He has also provided dance performances and instructional demonstrations at numerous outdoor concert venues for the same agency.
